Students put their skills to the test at Rotary Club's technology tournament in Scarborough.

The 12th annual techonology challenge was held at Scarborough Rugby Club on Tuesday February 11 and 13 teams from Scarborough UTC, Scarborough TEC, St Augustine’s, Graham and Headlands schools took part.
Students had to work together to solve a previously unseen task, this year building a powered vehicle using a weight and a system of pulleys with the materials supplied.

Hide AdThere are three age levels for team members; Foundation (11-14), Intermediate (15-16) and Advanced (16+). The degree of complexity of the task is increased at each age level.
John Riby, president of the Rotary Club of Scarborough, said: “It was very good.
“I’ve been to several of these over the years and this was the one that seemed to engage all of the students all of the time.
"The teachers were very complimentary about what they thought the students got out of it and how it integrates into their curriculum."

Hide AdPrizes were presented by Mayor Hazel Lynskey and the winner of the advanced category was a team from Scarborough UTC, St Augustine’s B team won the intermediate category and Graham School’s A team won the foundation.
The overall winner of the Paul Currie trophy was St Augustine’s School's D Team.
Next year’s event is already being planned and any schools, colleges or Clubs for young people (Scouts, Guides, Cadets etc.) that would like to enter the 2021 Tournament are asked to contact the Rotary Club of Scarborough at [email protected].
