Following heavy rainfall, the Church Cliff Drive site, currently being developed by McCarthy & Stone, appeared to have flooded.
A resident said: “McCarthy & Stone are meant to have carried out flood alleviation work as a condition of getting the planning permission. If this has been carried out properly why is it flooded? And if it wasn’t carried out properly what are the implications for the future?"

Hide AdPlanning permission for the new retirement village was granted last October despite objections from nearly 50 people and Filey Town Council.
Plans include 59 dwellings, comprising a two-storey block of 39 flats and 20 bungalows.
A spokesperson for McCarthy & Stone said: “Given the unprecedented amount of rainfall over the last few weeks, large parts of the UK have been affected by localised flooding and groundwater issues. On our development at Filey we have been working closely with specialist drainage engineers, the Environment Agency and the Local Authority.
“A flood alleviation scheme has been designed and agreed and works are in progress to implement this. Once completed, the works will assist with any future flood alleviation risk.”
