Marine life rescue charity receives £1,500 from East Yorkshire housebuilder

Barratt and David Wilson Homes has donated £1,500 to British Divers Marine Life Rescue as part of its Community Fund scheme.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue’s mission is to provide specialist assistance to marine mammals through trained Marine Mammal Medics, draw attention to the threats they face and offer solutions for their protection, all whilst promoting the highest standards of animal welfare.

The charity operates a 24/7 rescue hotline to respond to marine animal emergencies. With over 3,000 trained Marine Mammal Medics and specialist equipment across the UK, it collaborates with rehabilitation centres and experts to ensure animal welfare.

Its training programme equips volunteers with essential knowledge and skills in marine biology, first aid, and rescue techniques to act in the best interests of the animals they help.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ donation was made as part of The Barratt Redrow Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.

Emily Mayman, Rescue Coordinator for Head Office at British Divers Marine Life Rescue, said: “We were absolutely delighted when Barratt and David Wilson Homes got in touch as we’d been keen to work together for a long time. We are extremely grateful for its work and drive to provide funding to organisations like us.

“Its generous £1,500 donation will help fund a new whale rescue pontoon in Yorkshire, and we’re incredibly grateful for its support.

“The Community Fund scheme is a brilliant initiative, and we hope many more charities benefit from it.”

The charity uses its funds to supply essential rescue equipment like stretchers, pontoons, and first aid kits, cover travel and veterinary costs, and ensure volunteers receive the training they need to respond swiftly and effectively to marine mammal emergencies across the UK.

Daniel Smith, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire East, said: “Our Community Fund scheme plays a vital role in supporting charities like British Divers Marine Life Rescue, whose essential work makes a real difference to animals across the UK.

“We’re proud to contribute to such an inspiring cause and hope this donation helps the charity continue protecting vulnerable marine life for years to come”
